On Friday August 19th, the Niagara Falls Umpires Association held its annual banquet at the American Legion in Niagara Falls. Niagara Wheatfield Baseball program was honored with hte Larry Monin Sportsmanship Award. Nick Grzeskowiak became the first recipient of the Tom Nocera Prospect of the year award. Kyle Miller was awarded the Frank Penale Umpire of the year award. Additionally, past president, and current honorary member of the NFUA Mickey Gregg was inducted into the NFUA Hall of Fame. Congratulations to all award receipients.

Thank you to everyone for making the 2011 season a success. Once again we would like to start our recruitment process early, to expand our membership. Please have anyone interested in joining us complete an application at the link above. We are looking for members to join our summer ranks if they are not available for spring games. With the growin number and size of tournaments in our area, it is becoming increasingly difficult to field all of our assignment requests. Classes for 2012 will begin in February.
NBC Nightly News recently did a story on a Native American travel baseball team. Part of the story was filmed during one of the recent summer tournaments in Niagara Falls. Mike Salada and Kevin O'Brien traveled to Binghamton to umpire in the 2009 State Baseball Finals. Section VI sends two umpires each year, Niagara Falls is on the rotation to umpire every 4 years. Check out the pictures of Mike and Kevin in action State Tourney Pics
